Information About Catalogue Numbers

Foreword: MoldovaStamps is a 100% free and non-commercial, not-for-profit information service for collectors of stamps, postal stationery and postal history of Moldova and Gagauzia. We fully acknowledge the copyrights of the publishers of the commercial stamps catalogues listed below and we are using their number system for information purposes only, that information being in the public domain.

MoldovaStamps Catalogue Numbers (Abbreviated to Mst)

The MoldovaStamps catalogue numbering system is based on the Michel system and extends Michel numbers to include stamps and other items no presently listed by Michel. My decision was to "not re-invent the wheel", merely to extend it for the purposes of the MoldovaStamps project.

Abbreviations Used in MoldovaStamps Catalogue Numbers :

A or B suffix If the letters "A" or "B" appear suffixed (after) the main number, this is used to distinguish two stamps of the same design (or same issue) with different characteristics, such as perforation, colour etc.
Block This refers to Souvenir Sheets and NOT to blocks of 4, 6 or otherwise. See also notes on "Kb" below.
F suffix If the letter "F" appears suffixed (after) the main number, this indicates that the issue is a fake or forgery.
FDC First Day Cover.
FDS First Day Sheet.
GD Prefix Specifies that the stamp is a Gagauzian bogus issue of an original design.
GOP Prefix Specifies that the item is a USSR or Moldovan stamp with bogus overprints for Gagauzia.
H-Blatt This refers to complete booklet panes, detached from booklet covers.
Kb This refers to minisheets, also known as sheetlets. Typically minisheets are composed of sheets of 6, 8, 10 or 12 identical stamps without labels. The MoldovaStamps catalogue considers that small sheets (1-12 items) with different stamp designs and/or labels are Souvenir Sheets (Blocks).
MC Maxicard
MH This refers to booklets.
Mi Michel catalogue number.
MNH Unused or mint condition - Never Hinged.
P suffix If the letter "P" appears suffixed (after) the main number, this indicates that the item is a proof or essay.
PF This refers to presentation folders.
Sc Scott catalogue number.
ss Abbreviation for Souvenir Sheet(s)
tb suffix If the letter "tb" appear suffixed (after) the main number, this indicates a tete-beche pair.
v Values. The number of stamps in a set. Example 3v = 3 stamps.
Zd This refers to se-tenant items.
Zf This refers to stamps with labels.

Michel Catalogue Numbers (Abbreviated to Mi)

Michel catalogues are, in my opinion, the most detailed catalogues currently available on the market. They contain full listings for souvenir sheets and minisheets. They are internationally recognised by philatelic specialists. Wherever Michel has not listed a particular item, the MoldovaStamps listing will display "Mi Unlisted".

Michel catalogue numbers are copyright © by Schwanegerger Verlag GmbH, Germany.

Scott Catalogue Numbers (Abbreviated to Sc)

We have also included Scott catalogue numbers, wherever available for all listings. Scott catalogues are used world-wide and particularly by North American collectors. Wherever Scott has not listed a particular item, the MoldovaStamps listing will display "Sc Unlisted".
